Hello, I'm Scot King and I'm a CPA and also a momentum stock trader. After numerous years of trading, I was not satisfied with the scanners available for momentum traders so I decided to create one specifically designed for momentum trading. Having already built numerous websites in the Visual Basic programming language, I decided to create the StockBeacon website in VB.net with the assistance of AI development tools including ChatGPT. That's really what StockBeacon is about: helping momentum traders spend less time searching for stocks and more time evaluating the opportunities that matter.
Momentum opportunities can develop fast! A breaking news story, a sudden
increase in trading volume or a sharp price move can attract traders within
minutes. Finding the stock is only part of the process — traders also need
to understand why it is moving and evaluate the price action.
StockBeacon brings these pieces together by monitoring breaking news,
unusual volume and price movement and presenting alerts, news catalysts,
charts and key stock metrics in one workspace.
Over the years, one thing I have learned about momentum trading is that there is no single indicator that tells you whether a stock is going to make a significant move. I look for several factors coming together — a meaningful news catalyst, increasing volume, a strong percentage move, and characteristics such as a relatively low float. When several of these factors occur together, that is when a stock gets my attention.
I also believe timing matters. The market behaves very differently at 4:00 in the morning than it does at the opening bell, and differently again later in the trading day. StockBeacon was designed around the way I actually look for momentum opportunities throughout the trading day, rather than simply producing a list of stocks that have already moved.
StockBeacon isn't intended to tell anyone what to buy or sell. It is designed to do something much more practical: find stocks that deserve a closer look and put the information needed to evaluate them in one place. Ultimately, every trader has to decide for themselves whether an opportunity fits their own strategy and risk tolerance.
